Internal Medicine Residency Spokane offers an attractive benefit program that reflects the residency's commitment to its residents. The following outlines the major benefits offered to our residents. Benefits Medical Insurance Medical premiums for residents are fully paid for by the program. Fifty percent of the medical premiums for added family members are covered by the program. Dental Insurance Resident coverage provided by the program. The resident pays for family coverage. Life Insurance The program provides life insurance for the resident at no charge equal to a value of 1.5 times the base salary. Long-Term Disability Insurance Long-term disability insurance provides an income to you and your family should you become ill or disabled. You are provided a policy written specifically for residents, which contains specific inclusions for HIV disease. The policy is designed so that you may continue coverage after graduation from the program with the option for conversion to an individual policy. Coverage limits may be increased to match individual needs. The maximum monthly benefit during residency training is $5000 per month. The program pays all premium costs. Pre-tax Reimbursement Accounts We offer a program which provides you with the opportunity to pay for dependent childcare and certain medical/dental expenses by setting aside income not subject to payroll taxes. This allows you to pay fewer taxes and increase your take home pay at the same time. Annually, you may contribute up to $1500 pre-tax dollars to cover unreimbursed medical and dental expenses and up to $5000 to pay for dependent child care expenses. This program is voluntary and you decide if and how much you wish to contribute. Retirement Benefits As an employee of a nonprofit organization, you are immediately eligible to participate in a tax sheltered annuity program (403b), which allows you to save for retirement with tax-deferred dollars. You may individually contribute up to 25% of your gross pay up to a maximum of $11,000 per year. Regardless of whether you choose to contribute, after your second year the program will pay an amount equal to 6% of your gross salary into an account in your name. Vacation You receive 15 work days or three weeks of paid vacation, plus the last week of your R-1 year off. R-2 and R-3 residents receive 20 work days or four weeks of vacation. Weekends are not counted as vacation days. Meals Meals are provided to residents on all rotations. When on call, the resident may have his/her family join him/her for meals at no cost. Parking Residents are provided free covered parking in structures, which are contiguous with the hospital. Laboratory Coats The program provides each resident with two monogrammed white lab coats. Books R-1 residents are given core reference materials at the start of residency. All residents are provided membership in the American College of Physicians and R2 residents are provided the current Medical Knowledge Self Assessment Program (MKSAP—board review study materials) at no cost. Computers Residents have access to computers located in the resident's lounge, on call rooms, resident library, and in clinic. The program supplies each resident with a handheld wireless PDA. |
